A Newton man wearing a Boston College sweatshirt shoplifted a bottle of Steel Reserve from a liquor store on Saturday, according to police.

Police responded to Newton Highlands Wine and Spirits at 8:35 p.m. after an employee reported a man in a Boston College sweatshirt taking a 40 oz. bottle of Steel Reserve and fleeing the store in the direction of the Store 24 across the street. When police went across the street, they reportedly found a man with bloodshot eyes and smelling of alcohol, holding a 40 oz. and wearing a sweatshirt matching the description.

The employee reportedly identified the man as the thief and police arrested Matthew McGrath, 27, of 82 Lincoln St. and charged him with shoplifting.
